To watch videos with millions of YouTube views and deservedly so, please check out Karl Fisch and Scott McCleod’s Did You Know? And Shift Happens videos on YouTube. If you are like me you will love them!
Also, if you haven’t seen Marta Kagan’s “What The F**K is Social Media” presentation, it’s amazing! Many of the same eye-popping facts are contained in it – as well as many more. Plus, it does a much better job of providing insight than my video which is designed to grab attention. Kagan’s presentation informs, check it out!

Please fix your source for item number 12. – Department of Education study the finds online students outperformed those in classroom. This is very important. Thanks.
I have discovered the study or at least a reference to it by the Department of Ed:

Thanks for the video, after nearly a year the figures quoted in the presentation have probably grown even more. I have a youtube presence now i’m looking into facebook and twitter more.
cheers,
Toddy.
Facebook and twitter that is!
Sweet, thanks for the insight… Facebook is taking over!
The online world of wonders, it is are various media video.
Wow, Facebook is receiving more traffic than Google? I wonder if this is actual visitors or bandwidth they’re tracking with though.
thank you good post for social media.
Have you considered adding some videos to your article? It will really enhance my understanding. I noticed something as well about this on another blog.Incredibly, your take on it’s diametrically opposite as to the I just read previously. I am still trying to puzzle out within the conflicting points of view, but Im tipped heavily toward yours. As well as in any case, thats what is so outstanding about modern democracy and also the marketplace of ideas onthe internet.
There’s noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made sure nice points in features also.
From my vantage point there are less people focusing on the creativity and concept of their personal portfolios (myself included) because these quicker routes to getting work online exist and are popular and stifle unique possibilities. Fewer people are experimenting and pushing the creative envelope on their personal sites.
Took me time to read all the comments, but I really enjoyed the article. It proved to be very useful to me and I am sure to all the commenters here! It’s always nice when you can not only be informed, but also entertained! I’m sure you had joy writing this article.

Hi Erik,
I’ll be giving a presentation on Social Media to IT Professionals, IT Executives, and Business Owners at the 4/20/11 meeting of the Philadelphia Chapter of BDPA. Black Data Processing Associates is a national professional organization founded in 1975 with over 21,000 members and 45 chapters nationwide. I’d like to use your updated video in the presentation, but given “Murphy’s Law”, would prefer a local copy instead of relying on the Internet. Would you mind sending me a copy? FYI – I’m also planning on giving out 6 copies of your book, Socialnomics, at the mtg as I think it’s an excellent introduction to powerful impact Social Media can have on modern business. Thanks in advance!

Hi Erik I work for IBM in Mexico City and I am a Cognos Consultant. May I use this video in a presentation to ITESM University Students on March 24th 2011? I won’t have internet connection in the room so I would need to download the video.

Thanks so much for this intelligent website;this is the words that keeps me on track through out these day. I have been looking around for your site after asked to visit them from a colleague and was thrilled when I found it after searching for some time. Being a demanding blogger, I’m happy to see others taking initivative and contributing to the community. I would like to comment to show my support for your post as it is very enticing, and many bloggers do not get admiration they deserve. I am sure I’ll be back and will recommend to my friends.

Hi Erik,
LOVE the content you provide! I’m refreshing my social media class and I open it with your original video. Is there a way I can download this more current version?
It’s a really powerful way to start the class and gets the importance across immediately!
WOW!! Great video, I read through some of the postings, is there any way I can use this video in a presentation? It is for a small group of us here at AutoTrader.com and the presentation is on the relevance of Social Media in today’s Automotive Industry. I will certainly give you props and cite you.
Fantastic work, please, keep it up
Regards,
Paul
love the presentation, what software was is done it. its well powerful, and gets a great message across.
Sorry Virility Ex Scam, I was hoping to speak to Equal Man about rights to his video.
Thanks
Hello Equal Man
Your video is wonderful and so insightful. So very interesting to watch.
I am currently creating training materials on collaboration and social networking and we would love to embed your video. The company has a restriction on viewing youtube and does not have the capability to host flash. Would I be able to speak with you around converting the file and embedding and how we can reference you and give you the credit you need and deserve for this wonderful piece?
I’m late to the party commenting here – but better late than never right?
Erik – just wanted to say this is the best tool period to demostrate the power of social media. I use it live on stage and in seminars all the time and it always impresses. Funny side note – when showing live from stage – almost everytime the audience starts clapping and cheering when it completes! It definitely gets them fired up and ready to listen.
Thanks for all your hard work on it and your amazing book!
Can wait for video #3
Sean Malarkey
Sean: This is great!!! I’m excited that the video helps and it’s always cool when the audience applauds. Happy Holidays.
#34 is sketchy information when you consider Amazon is the make of kindle and the stat is not inclusive of any other book publisher.
Amazing video, thanks for the post!
Thanks James, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much Erik for this amazing video. I’ve been showing this to some skeptical clients who aren’t really sure about social media.
Great info!
Is there a downloadable version of the video? Would it be possible to get a copy? Please.
Mike
Thanks for the video Erik,
I have been using it to motivate both myself and my clients in their social media goals. I just now presented it to my sales team team and got a very good response from everyone and am looking forward to helping them use social media to build their business.
I look forward to reading your book soon!
Glad the video helps to motivate! Always great to here!
The original video helped me open some eyes that were tightly closed to Socialnomics. This update will help me to continue to help others to help themselves in this arena.
May I use this in a presentation to Colorado Auto Dealers Association. If so is there a downloadable version available. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work.
Mike
Amazing!! Mind blowing! Even if a small portion of anything was off it is astonding to read!! Thanks for the info, and the time and effort it took to pull all this together! We will be presenting this to all our employees for a powerful effect!!
Keep up the hard work! It’s so worth it!
The correct link for fact #6…http://www.un.org/cyberschoolbus/briefing/technology/tech.pdf
Thanks for catching this Mark!! This link has been updated.

It seems the statistics that “Over 50% of the world’s population is under 30-years-old” and “96% of them have joined a social network” is misleading. The key word missing is “online” – if you check the footnoted source for stat#2 it says that 96% of ONLINE teens use social networking, email etc.
While I find most of these stats interesting, and use them with my students, I can’t help but wonder how many other stats here are “twisted” like the aforementioned one.
Erik,
You have an uncanny ability to articulate your perspective about socialnomics! Fascinating display of hard work. Congratulations. I am wondering how I can use this in persuading perspective clients for marketing? Video? Presentation? Copy write concerns and permission?
Please advise
Rob De Leon
Hello Eric,
I love your book and the facts are very interesting.
Would it be okay if I mention you in my blog. I will link it to this blog:
http://blog.liquidedge.co.za
and use your name as a referance?
Keep writing! Regards,
Thanks for the kind words and support! Feel free to mention away, that is what being social is all about!
Best, Erik
I have to echo all the positive comments – fabulous presentation! I would also like permission to use it in a PowerPoint presentation for librarians and can you tell me how to embed this into my PPt presentation? Thanks so much.
Awesome video guys, its definitely inspired me to work hard on my social media…
Awesome video! Well supported with solid data.
If you don’t mind sharing, what software did you use to compile the video?
Sorry Erik,
you don`t have any attitude for my question….? I could not believe.
>>
Do you have any rights/approval (maybe only sep. countries, only US-market?) for commercial use the music in your book promo clip?
If not, what is your statement/reason to use it?
>>
Klaus:
If I understand your question correctly. You are fine to play the clip for your use via YouTube.
Best!
No, you have not understood my question correctly.
Let me repeat for your slowly:
In your clip you useed music material from an artist (Norman Cook, “right here, right now”), who is represented by Warner Music Group .
You use the clip to promote your company ,more specifically to announce your book. You use this protected material for commercial use.
If you want to use ist for commercial, you have to arrange licence. These are existing, maybe country specific rights.
The situation of nonexisting agreements between Sony/WMG and youTube is known.
Only my questions:
1) Do you have any rights/approval (maybe only sep. countries, only US-market?) for commercial use the music in your book promo clip?
2) Why did you made the risk, banning your clip. The music is not the essential. You an buy directly from artists like on http://www.ccmixter.org , like Karl Fischer on Didyou know used
2) If not, what is your personal statement/reason to use it after all? Provocation, extra ignoring, only fail by not knowing the topic?
3) What is your peronal attitude to copyright thematic, as related to your own work?
thanky, Erik!

Hi Erik!
I was interested in using this video in some presentations at my work on the usefulness of social media. We’re trying to set up a fb page and this might help get some people on board. Are there any copyright issues that I need to be aware of? Thanks!
Aloha Erik!
Absolutely awesome work! It’s something the world has to see…..and will.
Looking forward to the next, and next, and next….
Minn
Erik,
my question about used music in your Video is open:
Do you have any rights/approval (maybe only sep. countries, only US-market?) for commercial use?
If not, what is your statement/reason to use it?
Erik,
The presentation is killer. It’s hard to get motivated to put all the stats together, and you created a beautiful compilation.
Love the fact you cited all your sources, gives me an opportunity to do more digging if I want.
My suggestion for your next one is to include even more comparisons to “tangible” stats like population, money spent, volume occupied… I think that helps people put things in context and you have already done a great job relating this media to other forms like TV and Radio.
This is a great tool to run at the next staff meeting… some people might finally “Get it!” Ha!
Nice presentation in deed.
but…:
In Germany (maybe oher countries, too?) the Video you created couldn`t be viewed on YouTube, because it contains material of WMG/Sony.
What is the reason? The music probably. Do you have only a licence for commercial use on your own (sep countries), not use on YouTube?
Otherside: Why did you not used free/rightfree/cc-music to act global and avoiding the risk of a “Rohrkrepierer”?
Well done ad.
Cannot ignore.
Edward:
I’m glad you like the video – thanks for the support!
Great Work!! very informative.
Thanks Kavin!
Erik: Great refresh! Your message continues to show the importance of Social Media & Networking in our personal & business climate.
Happy to see you didn’t “re-do” just “refreshed”.
I see Heather Ozur is using as a PowerPoint presentation. Any chance I can utilize for presentations to clients? I provide trade show planning for small & emerging businesses that exhibit at trade shows, conventions & conferences. I often have to explain the importance of incorporating SM into their event marketing.
I’ll keep sharing.
Tami:
Feel free to help spread the word on Social Media & Socialnomics. Excited to hear the video helps your presentations. Keep up the great work!
Best! @equalman
